Me and Simplicity Sacks

I know you all have been wondering what was in my sacks from the Quilt Show in Houston. Well….I had a few minutes and finally took this out of the box.
Rotary Cutting Machine
The Simplicity Rotary Cutting Machine

This is the coolest gadget. You can make strips of fabric from 3/8" up to 2-3/4". The really cool thing about it is the blades are not sharp, and you can use the Rotary Cutting Machine for paper, too. It also comes with a perforated blade and makes a pinking sheered edge to your fabric or paper. The folks from Simplicity warned me that it takes some practice, and I can see where it will take some patience on my part. I should know from my crochet experience that old saying “Practice Make Perfect” is true. Well, I need some more practice. So I’ll keep practicing and talk to you later because this is addictive.

Oh, darn, another toy that I might HAVE to have!! Sounds like fun, especially if you do any fabric crocheting. And I have soooooo much fabric (and so little time!)

I thought the same thing, RJ - that this machine would be great for fabric-crochet strips. I won't be buying one, tho ... first, 'cuz I haven't even tried fabric crocheting yet - and also 'cuz of the learning curve the machine has. The brand is, after all, Simplicity - and I think it would be great if they had a machine that would be very simple to use, without needing much practice to get used to it. I remember reading from someone (not on CS) that they were not pleased with it. Hope you end up loving it, Tamara!

I've been seeing a lot of advertisements for the rotary cutter and have wondered how well it did. Simple to use is really the key here I think. You'll have to keep us updated on this one Tamara.

I love the plain old rotary cutter and when I saw this one I thought....OMG, another "Gotta Have." I have a large rotary cutter, and a small cutter, and a rotary cutter that cuts 2 strips at the same time and the strip width is adjustable. When I finish a sewing project I take the leftover fabric and cut it into strips so when I am ready to crochet I have strips ready to go. I also have them cut in case I decide I want to make a Log Cabin Quilt or strip piece something else. I learned to prepare myself better from when I worked in a quilt store, the owner was one of those people that believed in having fabric ready to use at all times. Gosh she taught me a whole lot and I haven't forgotten it....I hope.
